Dear Friends,

There is a certain electricity in the air during spring on college campuses across the nation, and that holds true for Central Florida Community College as well. Students preparing for graduation are full of excitement and anticipation as they are on the verge of completing one milestone, while anticipating their next adventures. Faculty members are seeing the completion of their lessons as they brainstorm for ways to add even more value for their students in the coming academic year. All of that energy comes from some exciting events that have occurred this year.

In this issue of Traditions, you'll find stories of students, faculty, donors and alumni that exemplify just how exciting spring has been at CFCC. From an NFL alumnus homecoming to kicking off another campaign and celebrating the generosity of donors, I hope you will find there is much to be proud of at CFCC.

As we move into the summer, I would share with you that Jane Hicks, our coordinator of Alumni Development and Annual Fund is retiring in July. Jane, along with co-worker Lisa Lombardo, our major gifts officer, has had a major role in the development of Traditions magazine. We sincerely thank Jane for her dedication, service and great work on behalf of our alumni. Her efforts with this magazine have been important in helping alumni, donors and friends stay connected with CFCC. We wish her well in her retirement.

I, too, will be retiring at the end of July; my wife will be retiring in June. We believe we are going into the renaissance phase of life and now will have time to explore other interests and activities. I am thankful for the chance to work and serve with so many people and to have been able to contribute in ways that help our students and community.

Please know that the college will be taking steps to continue Jane’s good work with alumni and find my replacement with the Foundation. As those changes occur, the college will certainly be in communication with you, our alumni, friends and donors.
